Introduction
McAfee Total Protection is a premium antivirus software that was developed by one of the world’s largest dedicated security technology company; a company that’s also a part of Intel’s Security Division. Trusted and used by over 300 million people all over the world, this antivirus software often comes along with most new Intel-powered laptops with a free 1-year protection.
Features
McAfee Total Protection is a premium antivirus software which comes with a myriad of features which you may not often see in most of the basic but free antivirus programs. If you’ve been following McAfee’s line of digital security products, you may realize that this version is actually a consolidated copy of McAfee’s previous antivirus products, namely McAfee Antivirus and McAfee Internet Security.
That being said, McAfee Total Protection provides all the basic functions of what you’d expect from an antivirus software, which includes all 4 forms of scanning – on-access, on-demand, boot-time and heuristics; and protection for all the many types of threats that your device may face, including viruses, malware, ransomware, spyware, and more.
In addition to the basics though, McAfee Total Protection offers additional features such as WebAdvisor which ensures safe web browsing for you and your family by preventing dangerous downloads and phishing attacks; a password manager to safeguard your passwords without having to jot them down physically; and a file lock which allows you to secure sensitive files with strong password protection and encryption.
Best yet, it also provides, as its name claims, “total protection” so you can use it to protect devices from varying platforms and manage all of them through a user-friendly webpage. That’s not including the free support provided throughout the duration of your subscription.
Cost
Being a premium-only antivirus company, McAfee offers 3 types of subscription packages. You can purchase Total Protection for 1 device at $54.99; 5 devices for $89.99 and 10 devices for $99.99 for the first year. By subscribing, you’ll be automatically placed under Automatic Renewal until you disable this option.
Now, you’ll need to be a bit careful when it comes to the costs because apparently, there are 2 different pricing schemes for McAfee’s Total Protection antivirus software. The First Term Prices which basically are the prices listed for the first-year subscription of the antivirus service, and the Renewal Term Subscription Prices which aren’t listed on their website – you may need to find this out yourself. The pricing and the services included are also subjected to changes though they said they will inform you if there were any.
McAfee also has a money-back guarantee called a VPP, which states that if the antivirus program they sell you isn’t able to remove a threat that the software is able to protect against, you will be able to claim the remaining curation of your current term of subscription as a refund.
Conclusion
All in all, McAfee Total Protection doesn’t seem to provide a lot despite being a premium antivirus software. It may contain a number of their acquired or developed proprietary tech, but we still think that for the price, the features and services provided seem to fall a bit short. Granted that it still does a pretty good job of securing your devices from threats, it may not actually be worth the cost.
